New upgraded portable fast response hygrometer has extended measurement range


Michell Instruments has upgraded its compact portable hygrometer, the MDM50, with an extended range and a fast response speed. Featuring Michell’s new SF82 dew-point transmitter, the upgraded MDM50 now offers a measurement range of -60 °C to +60 °C dew point, with an accuracy of ±2%.

Designed for use in tough industrial environments, the MDM50 is suitable for making spot checks of moisture in compressed air dryers, medical gases and ozone generators. The instrument is fully self-contained with an integral sampling system that can make measurements at line pressure up to 2 MPa (20 barg), and also includes filtration to remove particulates down to 0.3 μm. For specific applications, pressure readings at up to 30 MPa are possible.

The rechargeable NiMH battery pack provides up to sixteen hours of operation from a full charge. The instrument uses a standard universal battery charger that fits neatly into the instrument lid: no more searching for the misplaced charger!

As with all high-precision instruments, the MDM50 requires regular recalibration of the sensor to ensure continued reliability of measurements. Owners of the MDM50 can choose between two services. The sensor exchange program minimises downtime by providing a replacement sensor which the customer swaps for the one in their instrument and then returns the old sensor to Michell. The replacement is made in minutes and means that the instrument is never out of service. Alternatively, you can choose to return the complete instrument to your nearest service location for a full recalibration and service.

The MDM50 is just one of Michell’s range of portable dew-point hygrometers. For applications where a drier measurement range is needed, the Easidew Portable Universal Hygrometer is also fully self-contained and is capable of online measurements down to -100 °C dew point.
