Humidity and temperature probe ensures perfect surface for skaters

Rowley, MA: Michell’s PCMini52 digital humidity and temperature probe has been selected to form the heart of a new moisture and temperature control system at a very busy ice skating rink.
The system has been designed to improve ice quality and, at the same time, reduce energy costs. Four PCMini52 probes are installed to measure dew point and temperature 4 to 5 meters above the ice rink surface. These results are used by the control system to maintain the optimum conditions for skating, while using the minimum amount of energy.

The PCMini52 probe was selected for the application because of its small size and reliability. Its electronics are encapsulated in resin to protect from harsh environments, but this also enables it to cope with the long down-times while the ice-rink is closed over the summer.

Despite its small size, the PCMini52 is highly versatile. As well as providing dew point and temperature readings, it can be configured to monitor relative humidity, absolute humidity or wet-bulb temperature, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. With an accuracy of ±2% RH and a stability of ±1%RH/year it is a reliable instrument for many applications.
