New hydrocarbon and water dew-point analyzer for natural gas quality measurement meets requirements of CEN – EN16726 in conformity with ISO6327 and ASTM D1142

The portable Michell CDP301 Condumax dew-point tester ensures the quality of natural gas during processing and transport. It has global hazardous area certification from ATEX, IECEx and cQPSus and can be used in Zone 1 or 2 as well as in Class I, Division 1 hazardous areas.

Based on chilled mirror technology, the optical-visual measuring device provides repeatable and highly accurate measurements of hydrocarbon and water dew point in natural gas in order to check the requirements of gas quality specifications governing transmission, storage, distribution and utilization, such as CEN – EN16726, in the field. The operator always retains control of the measurement, so that ISO6327 and ASTM D1142 are reliably met.

While the previous manual visual dew point analyzers required observations through a microscope, the CDP301 has a high-resolution color display that shows an enlarged view of the mirror surface. The combination of this display with specific lighting technology makes it possible to measure either the water or the hydrocarbon dew point and, at the same time, record the results. Visible laser light in the red spectrum makes fine water droplets and ice crystals clearly observable when the water dew point is targeted.

White light with a broader spectrum, on the other hand, makes it possible to determine the iridescent film of the hydrocarbon condensate with a high sensitivity of 5 mg / Nm3. Dew-point temperature and analysis pressure are recorded at the push of a button. The recorded still images and videos can later be checked directly on the device display or on a PC, as well as assigned to the measuring point data and archived for future reference.

The Peltier-cooled sensor specially developed for the CDP301 is characterized by excellent thermal properties and ensures a cooling capacity of up to Δ65°C below ambient temperature, even when tests are carried out at high analytical pressures of up to 100 barg. It is also easy to set up and completely self-contained, which means that no separate coolant gas is required.

The CDP301 weighs less than 9 kg and can be operated independently of the mains for up to 8 hours thanks to the rechargeable battery. A replacement battery guarantees that it is always ready for use.
