A team of pupils from Bottisham Village College has won £1000 of new science equipment for the school in Michell’s Science of Water competition for Cambridgeshire schools.

The aim of the competition was to research a property of water and produce a poster which demonstrated their findings. The winning team chose to look at ways to remove moisture – examining de-humidifiers, evaporation and desiccants. The competition was judged by Dr Stephanie Bell from the National Physical Laboratory, Dr Peter Wothers from Cambridge University and Mike Bannister, CEO of Michell Instruments.

Six schools entered the competition, with a total of 15 teams. The runners up were teams from Impington Village College and Ely College, both with entries looking at surface tension.

The competition organisers were very pleased with the outcome of the competition and plan to make it a yearly event, as part of Michell’s on-going programme of schools outreach activities which also include offering work experience placements and participation in careers events in local schools.

Michell Instruments would like to thank all the schools for taking part and you can see the entries by clicking on each rosette.
